Benjamin “Ben” Russell, 50 of Loup City, NE died Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City, NE. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Loup City Community Building with Reverend Darrell Holzinger officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the community building. Memorials are suggested to ALS in the Heartland or Russell family.
Ben was born July 1, 1973 in Corning, Iowa to Theo and Sheila (Clifford). After graduating from Corning High School in 1991, he attended Lincoln Tech in Des Moines where he became an Automotive Technician. He worked for over 30 years doing mechanic and auto body work. On March 12, 2005 Ben married Dana Lonowski and together would raise three children in Loup City. Ben enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, camping, and listening to music. He loved motorcycles and rode his Harley Davidson every chance he got. He also enjoyed watching his children’s activities over the years. He instilled his love of music onto his three children. In April of 2022, Ben was diagnosed with ALS and fought courageously for 23 months. He finally won.
Ben is survived by his wife, Dana of Loup City; daughter, Skylar (Dylan Spotanski) of Loup City; sons, Cameron of Kearney and Cole of Loup City; brothers, Kent (Lyn) Russell of Coarsegold, CA; Scott Russell of Corning, IA and Paul Russell of Creston, IA; sisters, Ellen (Mike) Gray of Monticello, IL; Elizabeth Durham of Pleasant Hill, IA and Leah (Alan) Stalcup of Prescott, IA; 15 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews; father-in-law Duane Lonowski of Loup City; mother-in-law Carla Lonowski (Larry Placzek) of Loup City; sisters-in-law Shawna Stanczyk of Lincoln and Brittney Kowalski of Hazard and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Sheila Russell; brother, Charles “Chuck” Russell; niece, Sierra Vagasky; brother-in-law, Richard Durham and good friends, James “Jimmy” O’Brien and Chad White.
